Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2020

Royal Challengers Bangalore has to be one of the unluckiest teams in IPL as they are yet to win a title despite playing 3 finals in 2009, 2011 and 2016. However, they have also been the biggest underachievers of the tournament, having finished in the bottom half of the table in 7 of the 12 seasons. It is fair to say that one of the biggest reasons for this is the over-reliance of the team on players like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to always take them over the line. This is where other senior players need to step up their game and have the belief of winning matches on their own.

Last Year’s Performance

RCB had a really bad season in 2019, having finished at the bottom of the table with a terrible NRR. They managed to get 11 points but that too was thanks to a late resurgence where they won 7 points in the last 5 matches. They just did not look like a team that could perform collectively as a well-oiled machine. In most matches, it was a case of one or two players performing and others looking as if they just did not turn up with the right mindset that day.

What can we Expect from RCB in the 2020 season

The major onus will again be on Kohli, de Villiers, and Yuzvendra Chahal to deliver the goods but other players like Moeen Ali, Umesh Yadav, Navdeep Saini, and Parthiv Patel will have to provide considerable support. RCB has really bolstered their side with some promising signings in the form of Aaron Finch, Joshua Philippe, and Chris Morris. They have also brought in veterans like Dale Steyn and Isuru Udana and T20 specialist Kane Richardson to add some substance to the bowling unit. The least to expect from this team would be a place in the playoffs.

Current Squad of RCB

The list of players in Royal Challengers Bangalore are:

  • Virat Kohli
  • AB de Villiers
  • Gurkeerat Mann
  • Devdutt Padikkal
  • Aaron Finch

  • Moeen Ali
  • Pawan Negi
  • Shivam Dube
  • Washington Sundar

With the inclusion of Kane Richardson and Finch, the RCB has become stronger this season. The players aiming to play fantasy league for RCB matches are required to keep a close eye on them while making their IPL fantasy cricket teams as they can be the game-changers.

Latest Acquisitions

RCB needed some really big impact signings to at least be in the fray of title contenders. Their biggest signing was Chris Morris but he will have to perform extremely well to justify his Rs. 10 Crore price tag. However, signing Aaron Finch was an excellent decision as the Aussie limited-overs captain has been in incredible form recently. Joshua Philippe is an exciting wicket-keeping option about whom not many people are talking but if given a chance he can really change the fortunes of the team. Kane Richardson is another buy who would most probably feature in the playing XI.

Like all the years gone by, the squad of RCB is quite exciting this time as well but they will have to perform to their full potential if they are to have any realistic chance of finally getting hold of their first IPL title.
