Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in CPL

If there is any team that deserves to win at least a single Caribbean Premier League title, then it has to be the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The team has been in the final five times but is yet to win a title, which makes them one of the unluckiest franchises in the world of T20 cricket. The team has been part of the tournament right from its inception in 2013 and has seen a plethora of top-flight players like Lasith Malinga, Mohammad Hafeez, Martin Guptill, Sunil Narine and many more representing them.

However, the team looks slightly depleted this year, at least on paper, especially with the unavailability of the Pakistani duo of Shoaib Malik and Shadab Khan. Nonetheless, the team does have a good pool of local talent with several players proving their mettle in the international circuits as well.

Keemo Paul, Shimron Hetmeyer, and Brandon King are some of the brightest prospects in the land. Add to that seasoned campaigners like Ross Taylor and Imran Tahir, and you can bet that they do have the firepower to beat any team on their day. It would be interesting to see how the young players perform, especially now when the onus is on them to bring home the title for the first time in the team's history.

SWOT Analysis for GAW Team 2020

A detailed SWOT analysis of the GAW team is given below that will enable the CPL fantasy league players to better understand the team's stats and build their dream fantasy team more effectively. Check this information below, analyze and make informed decisions for the CPL fantasy contests.

Strengths of GAW

The Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2020 is one of the youngest sides in the tournament, so there will be no lack of intensity and exuberance and this is exactly what they have to see as their biggest strength. With most players in the squad being good fielders, they can very well turn out to be one of the best fielding sides in the tournament. They will be banking on this energy in the field to pump each other up and win matches, even in tight situations.

Weaknesses of GAW

Apart from the inexperience across the line-up, the bowling department of the Amazon Warriors team looks quite weak. Apart from veteran leg-spin bowler Imran Tahir, there is no big name in the bowling line-up. This could very well turn out to be their downfall, especially while defending low totals or while bowling first in batting-friendly conditions.

Opportunities for GAW

The Guyana Amazon Warriors team will be looking to finally lift the trophy that has been eluding them all this while. Having played two finals in the last two editions, the team would be hoping to make it third-time lucky. Apart from this, the CPL 2020 would be a great opportunity for the various young West Indian players in the team to make a name for themselves and possibly get selected in their national team.

Threats for GAW

It is a fairly inexperienced side and it can come back to bite them, especially during those key moments in a match. If players like Ross Taylor and Imran Tahir get injured, it can get really tough for the young boys without a seasoned campaigner on the field.

Guyana Amazon Warriors 2020 Squad

Kevin Sinclair, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Keemo Paul, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Odean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Qais Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Imran Tahir, Ross Taylor, Chris Green, Ashmead Nedd, and Jasdeep Singh.

Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmeyer, Ross Taylor, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Kevin Sinclair, Naveen-ul-Haq, Qais Ahmed, Imran Tahir and Odean Smith.

With the likes of Rassie van der Dussen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Anrich Nortje and other fellow South Africans taking leave from this year's CPL due to the Coronavirus National lockdown, GAW's Imran Tahir is the only South African player to feature in CPL 2020, as he was not in the country when the lockdown was initiated. Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2020 would be playing the season opener against Trinbago Knight Riders.
