Poker

It is the most popular card game in the world. Poker is a combination card game between betting and making strategies. Despite the luck element in poker where you are given two cards, poker players usually use their skills to either bluff the opponent or get them to raise the stakes.

The card game is very popular in North America but has also made its inroads in Indian gaming applications. In poker, the most important thing to do is to remember the ranking of the different hands that you can possibly get.

In traditional poker rules, there are 2-8 players playing at the same table. Each player is dealt two cards and a minimal bet is placed (smallblind & big blind). Once all bets are equal, three cards are opened up called the Flop. Then players take turns to either check, raise or fold their cards. Next, one more card is opened up called the Turn. And finally, when all the bets are equalised again- the last card is opened up called the river. The players remaining can continue their bets till they are ‘called’, in which case there will be a show. The player with the greater hand will take away all the chips from the pot.

Teen Patti

Another game that is very popular is Teen Patti. Literally translated to ‘Three Cards’, Teen Patti is an Indian card game that has many similarities to the card game of poker.

Teen Patti is played with 3-6 players with a single deck of cards. The objective of the game is to place a bet on whoever has the best hands. Three cards are dealt to each player and they have to place a minimum bet before the start of the game. Based on who has the best outcomes, they will collect the pot money.

In Teen Patti, the players can be of two types: Seen Player or Blind Player. Seen Players are the ones that see their cards and can decide if they want to continue playing after adding the minimum pot value. A Blind player is one who does not see their cards and continues to play. However, if a blind player raises the stakes, the remaining seen players will have to double their bets.

However, since Teen Patti revolves around the only 3 cards that are received at the start of the game, it is considered as a ‘luck-based game’ and therefore is illegal to play for real money.

Bluff

The popularity of Bluff has reached every corner of India. This game has extremely simple rules. Based on the even number of cards distributed, the player with an A of Spades starts face down. The game keeps continuing in order of cards 2,3,4 until a player calls ‘Bluff’.

A ‘bluff’ call means that a player calls out that the other has put down the wrong card. If caught, the pile of cards is collected by the bluffer. If the cards are true, then the player that called will collect the cards from the discarded pile. The winner is the player that finishes all their cards first.

Bluff is extremely popular in India as it can be played with all families. The game calls for straight faces, bluffing skills & luck.

Blackjack

Designated as a game of chance, you can find Blackjack in most casinos. After poker, Blackjack has also featured in so many movies. Also known as 21, this card game’s main objective is to get your value as close as 21. In Blackjack games, you play against the dealer and you attempt to beat him/her. There are many versions of Blackjack and the values that you can attempt to beat the dealer with.
